- The BNOSCAs Sketch Comedy Awards -
This week sees the start of the run up to the BNOSCAs (Big Night Out Sketch Comedy Awards).
This new award ceremony is designed to stimulate and promote new ideas and talent in the field of sketch comedy, an important step in the career of comics and comedy writers. The award ceremony on the 23rd of May promises to be a showcase for the stars of tomorrow.
The competition opens this week with the call for entries (VHS or miniDV format, between 1 and 3 minutes). Entries are expected from independent filmmakers, comics and film schools all over the country.
The closing date for entries is the 2nd of May, after which time all entries will be whittled down to a short list of 15 by Zoo42 Productions, the organisers of the event (zoo42.com).
The illustrious panel of judges will then choose winners for each of the following categories to be revealed on the night:
· Overall Best Comic Sketch
· Best Script
· Best Comic Performance
· Best Director
The Judges are:

The fifth category, “The People’s Choice†will be voted for by the public through the BNOSCAs web site.
The event will be held in London’s West End and is hotly anticipated as the crown of the London Comedy Festival (londoncomedyfestival.com). All 15 short listed sketches will be screened during the ceremony and the Prizes will be awarded to winners in front of a live audience of industry insiders and members of the public.
Hosted by TV presenter Chris Gilbert and stand-up comedian Jez O’Donnell, it’s certain to be a high profile event.
