Defrag is taking ages , why ?

do you have any of the following ?

1. hard drive too full , no space to move files to while defragging ?
2. file indexing switched on ?
3. system restore enabled on that drive ?

all of the above can/will slow down a defrag

not forgetting

4. antivirus software running ?
5. trying to play a file from that drive while defragging ?
