what the best program/method to do the sort of multiscreen PinP that the (amazing! ) drama "24" does every other minute. ive a lite version of msp6 and premiere6, i prefer using msp6, the only way i was thinking of was overlays of black images with squares cut out, but i was wondering if there was a better way
If you can lay your hands on After Effects you will be laughing.
You can do it in Premier with Boris effects and a little experimentation.
I hated 24 with a passion - I was living in NYC last year when it came out - the Americans loved it too.
good luck

demon of dirt,
Sounds like you're on the right track. Look up the term "compositing" in the online help of your editing app.
You definitely don't need to shell out for After Effects or Boris to do this.
the simplest way would be to use the Motion tools (in either package) to move the image around and just havbe a black background to stick the clips on. you can create animated mattes as separate avis (White squares on a black ground) to do the highlighting of parts of an image rather than shrinking bits.
But think why you are doing and what its meant to show, I personally find it distracting to the point I abandoned doing it in a wedding (with a much simpler style) and it irrated me enough to turn off '24' and 'Spooks' is just as annoying.
See you earlier,
Steven
thanks thats the sorta thing i was thinking of but wasnt sure of how to carry out an exact implemenation.
dont worry im using it as a one off scene, it is footage at a world championship windsurfing event, two sailors doing two very impressive tricks on the same wave at the same time (rare) one is framed top left, the other bottom right. trouble is the one bottom right bails just after completing his trick and just before the other has finsihed his, so im splitting them half way through and slowing down one to 75% and placing them side by side
