I tried out my new LG BD burner on this iMac yesterday. Burned a 17.69 GB .mov file via Toast Titanium 11.
The resultant BD is "only" 720p, whereas the source file is 1080p. I can't see any means in the Toast menu to "set" the BD as 1080p, in fact all I could find is a "Best" setting.
I then tried creating a .img file out of FCP X . I managed this, about 4 hours for a 20 minute movie, resulting in a 4.62GB .img file.
I tried this in Toast, but having dragged the file into "the box" Toast refused it.
I hope it is me doing something wrong rather than soft/hardware deficiencies and I would appreciate any suggestions as to how I SHOULD burn a 1080p BD,
Ron
ps a safe and healthy New Year to everyone.
I'm sure Toast adopts the format of your source file(s), so I would suspect the settings you used to produce the source file might not be what you expected.
Can you confirm the source file format, with something like Media Info Mac?
Apple Pro-Res 4:2:2 1920x1080 says the file info.
Ron
In that case, I don't know - sorry. You sure the BD is 720p? (But you must have checked this.)
Apart from there being "something" about the quality off the BD via my projector, the projector reads "720p" for input signal.
Ron
Though I need to check whether input signal is set via the PJ reading of the signal, rather than something that is set by the operator. I suspect the former,
Ron
Can you open the .m2ts files from the BD in MediaInfo Mac? Found in the "root:BDMV:STREAM:" folder? They should be 1440x1080 pixels?
Is the projector a full 1080 "lines" native?
I've got to go out Martin, Maplins Liverpool for BD-REs (!!) and Flash Drives.
Will have a look later. The PJ is 1080p as is my little LG Monitor. Interested to know of anybody who's managed a 1080p BD via Toast,
Ron
Do you mean 1080/50p ?
Because that's not a valid Blu-ray format, perhaps the software automatically defaults to 720/50p?? --which of course is a valid Blu-ray format..
My video input to FCP X is 1080/25p , is that a valid BD format?
Ron

Nope--- only 25i .... or 24p, according to the spec lists I've seen.
I understand the AVCHD spec is being updated to include 1080/50p (and presumably 25p?) but I'm not sure whether these updates are for Blu-ray as well......
Typical! There is far more PAL potential in the world including China where most of the BD kit is made.
I actually have a little Sony still camera that does 1080/50p video in AVCHD but need to convert it, in my case via Toast, to 1080/25p in order to play it here or to incorporate into my other 25p footage.
Ron
I suppose I could try to export my 25p movie as 24p for BD purposes. No lip synch issues albeit I have a few close up clips of a singing House Wren.
Trouble is that even with Compressor 4 I cannot find the comprehensive suite of export formats in FCP X that are in FCP 7,
Ron
