Hi all, I have this Canopus DVStorm-RT card that was given to me by a friend which I tried installing on a XP machine, the card appears as a "multimedia controller" under "unknown devices" in Device Manager. I downloaded the latest drivers for the card and tried installing them but the installer does not recognise the card, after installing the card remains as an unknown device in Device Manager. The PCI slots in the PC have been confirmed working and the card was seated properly during the trials. The strange thing is that the HardwareID of the card (PCI\VEN_1131&DEV_7146&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_01) is different to the one in the DVStorm-RT driver's INF file (PCI\VEN_1131&DEV_7146&SUBSYS_2006114B), which in part made the system fail to install the card. Upon modifying the driver INF file so that its HardwareID matches of the actual card and installing, Device Manager reports that the device cannot start (code 10).
Does anyone have the original install discs for this card and/or how to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance.
The first thing to check is in the BIOS. Go to the Advanced/PnP settings and look for PCI Latency Timer. This should be set at 64. If it isn't, or if the motherboard does not have this feature, then this may be the reason why your card will not install.
Next, what is the date of your driver file?
As far as installing the driver is concerned, I do this in Device Manager before I use the actual Install disks. Is this the method that you have used?
You shouldn't need to modify INF files to load the driver.
Hi RayL,
The motherboard concerned is Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3, I don't think it has the "PCI Latency Timer" setting in the "Advanced BIOS" settings.
The driver's date is October 15 2002 (version 2.00). The SUBSYS part of the card's HardwareID didn't match that of the driver's INF, so Device Manager couldn't find any driver at all.
