Can`t retrieve last VTS from dvd any tips ?

Here`s hoping but I`m not optimistic. On a dvd file structure which has been witten to  99 % of capacity on several dvds made in 2006 , It is impossible to transfer to Hard disc the last VTS - 04 file and comes back CRC . Tried different computers but all the same fail. It seems to be a common problem throughout. Tried cleaning the discs. Short of solvent cleaning with surgical spirit (which is going to be my last throw of the dice)  So any tips before I kill the disc ?

Either:
(a) MPEG Streamclip? Or
(b) if it plays in a DVD player: try capturing the analogue playback?

The last portion of DVD freezes in player on the last VTS file Ok some can be retrieved but not all disc contents. I have Canopus pro coder which I can stitch together all the files by renaming them as Mpg. Re recording and re encoding I have considered. I thinlk I am looking for a less painless way :)

Doesn't look like there's a less painful way.

Get my test cards document, and cards for 625, 525, 720 and 1080. Thanks to Gavin Gration for hosting them.
Camera settings documents are held by Daniel Browning and at the EBU
