This may be an easy question, but what's the best way to go about capturing audio on the PC.
I can play CD's quite happily on my system, but don't see an obvious way of capturing them.
The Microsoft Sound Recorder doesn't seem to register that any CD's are playing and doesn't seem to have any way of selecting an Input device.
What am I missing here...?
Try lookion in the multimedia options in Control Panel, there should be an option for selecting which inputs are active and what their levels are.
Under which TAB and what should I select. Nothing seems to make much sense...

Go start > settings > control panel > multimedia. In the audio folder, under the centre (recording) section click on the button with the mic on it. Make sure the CD mute check box *is not* ticked.

Thanks I've also downloaded a shareware program that looks to the the dogs bollocks.
I'll try both methods and let you know which I have the most success with.
Andy
Tried both methods.
The windows method works well. Thanks for the tip on where to find the input. That microphone icon just looked like a non-selectable graphic with a pull down menu to the right.
The shareware program I'm using is "Audiograbber" version 1.41. I would advise anyone who has not seen it to download the demo version post haste.
It captures the music digitally - rather than through the sound card - and claims that the copy is as good as the original.
Capturing Music is simplicity itself, and it records at (6x on average) many times normal speed. It can convert files to MP3 if you so wish, and even contains a link to the CDDB sites on the net. So you just put in your new CD and it will fill in the title, Artist, and the details for all the tracks. Excellent.
I will be purchasing a copy ($25,) ASAP.

When I couldn't record from CD it took me two days to figure out that the microphone icon was in fact a "button" waiting to be pressed, (thanks once again microsoft, four programmers for every "one" real job and still get it right). Hope you saved a little time Andy, now where do I download this demo programme from.

Either search for it by name, or go to multimedia / Audio.
It's called Audiograbber.
Let me know what you think.
