Many of you will have noticed that Fergie's banter has been missing from the Forum recently. At the moment he is in Hospital with an eye problem which could leave him partially sighted. For a video/photographer this could be a life changing experience. So I hope you will join me and raise glass full of his favourite "stuff" to a successful operation, a speedy recovery and that he will be back with his chatter soon.
Harry
I'll drink to that! Hope everything goes well...

Thanks for the update Harry. Robert emailed me a few days ago to say that his specialist had diagnosed his problem as Macular Degeneration. He (Robert) said that it can be treated but needs injections directly into the eye. I'm sure that we all wish him and his wife all the very best at a very worrying time.
Here`s to a speedy & successful recovery! All the best Fergie.
I'll drink to that too!
All the best Fergie!
Best Wishes Fergie
Hope all goes well, Fergie. Best wishes
Ray
Good luck and best wishes Fergie.
Good luck Fergie, we are thinking of you.
Best Wishes fergie
Get well soon Fergie
The good news is that Robert is out of the hospital and back in his house. Phoned him this morning and he is still his cheery self. He will probably be able to thank all the members for the good wishes you gave him.
Harry
Hi Guys.
Thanks for your good wishes.
Two weeks ago I noticed a black disc in the vision of my left eye.
What happened next is a long twisting story over a short period of time and the outcome was that I got referred to Glasgow's Gartnavel Hospital and saw the only surgeon in the country who could offer some hope of at least partially saving some of the sight in my left eye.
The sight in my right eye has always been poor.
After speaking to the surgeon, he said he would operate the following morning.
There was no guarantee of success but the alternative was to do nothing and taking that course would certainly result in a complete loss of sight in my left eye.
He went on to say that the standard of sight quality in my poor right eye would be the best I will ever have as the left eye will not make a full recovery.
I had the op yesterday.
It's a waiting game now.
At the moment, my left eye will only tell me whether a light is on or off.
What's really annoying is that I have only recently bought a 50" 3D television and now I've only got one eye.
Cheers all.
Hey, that sounds like a challenge for you. My dad had eye issues so understand a bit. here. Will do the right thing and have a glass of the right stuff on your behalf. Sounds like you have a big team behind you here anyway.
Chris
Just a quick update.
I think the surgeon has worked wonders.
From seeing nothing at all in my left eye the sight is making a slow but seemingly steady improvement. I can now see quite a bit with it but much of the centre area of vision is blurred and distorted. Text is impossible to read unless it's a very large four letter word on the TV screen.
The first of the required three injections into my eye was done during the opperation so I was unaware of it. I had the second injection over a week ago and was terrified by the thought of a needle being stuck into my eye, but everyone reasured me saying that I would be given eye drops that would numb the eye and the injection would be painless.
They all lied.
The drops only numbed the surface of the eye. Once the needle penetrated into the eye, it was F^&*@~^# intensely painful. I'm not looking forward to the next one.
Having said that, I am still extremely grateful that my sight is showing encouraging signs of improvement.
Hi Robert, It's good to see you posting on the forum again, and it sounds promising news about your vision. I wish you all the very best for the future. Tony C.
Hi Robert
Thanks for posting and updating us
I had problems with my eyes in 1976 and had injections into both eyes, no operation was needed thank goodness.
All the best
John
Ooh, that looks sore, will all be worth it in the end though.
Hope it doesn't take too long to heal.
Hi Robert
"Text is impossible to read unless it's a very large four letter word on the TV screen"
Doesn't BELL's count as 5 letters? BTW Maureen is certainly showing her photography skills with your photo, or is this another selfie?
Best of luck.
Harry
Saw the surgeon who operated on my eye and he is very pleased with the results and says that it should regain a good bit of sight but we will have to wait a bit yet to see the end result.
Colour vision in the left eye is still very much at the blue end of the spectrum and still a lot of distottion in the central area of vision.
But, like the specialist, I have high hopes of a reasonably good recovery even though he says that the eye will never be as good as it was.
Cheers.
Just a wee update.
At Gartnavel Hospital for one of my regular check ups and i'm told that with my glasses on) i have 20/20 vision in my left eye. Colour vision has largely sorted itself out except for yellow for that colour seems to have patches of white in it. Still some distortion in the central area of vision but the new lens in the right eye is more or less cancelling that out.
Similar type problem that is threatening my right eye is now being treated with a course of injections. :)
Cheers.
