Hi All
Any idea where I could purchase a FireWire board for a canon xha1s I have taken off the housing where the port is located and it seems like an easy fix the board is only held in by two screws and a ribbon cable no soldering needed I could easily swap them out but I need to source a new board. Any ideas.
Cheers Steve

Re: FireWire port

The only one I've seen is from this guy in the US :  http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canon-XH-A1s-PCB-Jack-Assembly-Firewire-Port-Free-Shipping-/371295211791   but I'm not sure that includes the Firewire 'active' electronics?

Depends why you need it of course.... of you've simply got broken jack then it's probably fine. But if you've suffered the more common 'fried' Firewire port problem, which is usually caused by 'hot swapping' Firewire connections, then I'm not sure all the 'blown' components will be on that pcb.

You may need a new main pcb for that....and that will be expensive!

In theory of course, Firewire ports are supposed to be 'hot swappable'. In practice, they're not.  This technical pdf from Texas Instruments outlines why pretty well: http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slea072a/slea072a.pdf

Hopefully, you've just got a  wobbly connector.........
