Free online tutorials for Adobe Encore

After trawling the web for days on end looking for the rarest of a rare breed, FREE “online tutorials for Adobe Encore” and finding very few, the ones I did find would cost “X” amount of £’s or $’s to download.
So I decide to take the proverbial Bull by the horns and try and create my own, this was about 5/6 weeks ago now. And what started off with 1 small 5MB tutorial has now grown into over 60MB of the bloody things.
After posting the link to them on the Wrigleyvideo forums to generate some sort of feedback where they were well received I am now throwing open the link to anyone on the forum to visit and download them.

I have to stress to everyone that I am not nor do I profess to be any kind of Encore Expert, I am just a humble “Beginner” who has attempted to assist others likewise myself.
I now know that there are easier faster shortcuts to do some of the methods that are contained within the tutorials. However I am a firm believer in that “You have to take the long way around a few times before you discover a shortcut”. ;)
I had to learn FrontPage 2000 from scratch to compile a simple web page to host all the recordings (so please don’t be to hard on me…. ).

I trust that you will find the Tutorials useful, and I apologize to the 56k dialup users, as some of the files are pretty large.

Also my sincere thanks go to “Bob C” for taking the time to download and review a few of the tutorials and for his most welcome constructive comments on making things better quality wise for future tutorials.

Hi Doog
Thanks for taking the time to prepare, and to share your Encore tutorials with the forum.
When I first got Encore and looked at the manual, I found it a bit daunting. Isaw the tutorial on the Wrigley site for basic "make basic DVD" and after running that it explained a lot. I find that a lot of the sections in the maual are a bit irrevelent, but there in case you need it.
Thanks again for your time, I`m sure there are quite a few people who will find your site very helpful.

Thanks Mike...

if only a handful of users get some understanding of the workings of Adobe Encore by viewing the tutorials than all my effort has been worth while.
sometimes we all need someone to "flick that light" on upstairs that makes us say "Hmmmm, now i understand!" ;)

Hi Doogs

Perhaps Bob could include them on the next DVD?

"Sheesh!" Mike.. i wouldn't go as far as that....
the tuts must be popular as my bandwidth has jumped to over 700MB per day downloaded... since i posted the link on here..

Mike,

I'd already suggested to Doogs that it might be an idea to put his tutorials on the DVD.

However, I was hoping that if he posted here, too, people would have a good look at them and let me have their views of whether I'm right in making that assumption.

We are seriously under the cosh, workwise, and as I said to Doogs, simply don't have the time to properly make such a judgement ourselves at the moment about non-commercial product.

Sad, but true.

Hi Bob!
Yes the tutorials are worth putting on the cover DVD. There are still a lot of people that dont have a broadband connection-which would make downloading them heavy work. I was only thinking the other day, after a few months go by how are you going to fill your DVD. This would be a good answer for one edition at least, and they contain a lot of useful information.

thanks for the feedback so far... i am working hard with Windows Media Encoder to get the file size down without sacrificing video quality. i have now halved the size of the file and the video is good but the audio side of things is pure crap... pehaps i should record using a Mono mic... any ideas on this?????

no need to record using a mono mic, just mix the two channels together, or even just use the lest one!

never really looked into encoder deeply enough to advise - have you tried asking Curt Wrigley what settings he uses?

Curt keeps the settings for his tutorials very close to his chest... can't say that i blame him, what with all the time/effort and suchlike that he puts into them... i am getting there slowly.. but getting there...

just watched the motion menus tutorial, and now feel quite enlightened! Audio was a bit quiet though... also, it might be better if you explained the reasons for doing certain things, like the naming conventions with the {+} and what some of the settings you're changing are doing to the end product. other than that, excelent stuff! thanks!

Open tutorial file in media player. Then go to file > properties. That will show you the frame size and rate as well as audio settings.

I am going to be re-doing some of the tutorials, and this time i will give more details as to what i am doing on screen..

Thanks for all the feedback, it takes fresh eyes to spot the things that my tired eyes missed... much appreciated folks.....

yeah, you can find out the bit rate or the audio and video streams but it's the other encoding details that you need to know. In the same way as you can find out the bitrate of the mpeg on a professionally produced DVD, without the GOP structure you're not going to be able to reproduce the same quality of image in the same bitrate.

So people, should we put these on the DVD if Doogs is willing?

Doogs,

Some great tutorials there!

They are going to make my transition from Impression Pro so much easier.

Two small points: the links to the PAl Menu Templates, and Tutorial 4 (basic motion menu) do not work.

Hope the tuts help you with Encore.... ;)

erm, doogs, i'm not sure if it could be a problem with my install or something, but AVG detects a trojan in your self extracting zips.

Trojan Horse BackDoor.Iroffer.3.AR

I recently ran a full scan on my system (just because i do occasionally, no problems or anything) and your exe files flashed up as containing this trojan. AVG deleted them so i re-downloaded a few just now and AVG says the same thing. It's not said it in the past and i've never noticed a problem, so maybe it's an error in AVG's definitions.

Does anyone else get this?

Doogs, what are you using to zip the files up?

WHAT!!!!

is in all the files??? or just some of them... i have used Winzip on the majority of them.. and then i used Winrar to create a self extracting .exe
I have never had any hassles from other folks.. but i will put a post over @ wrigley.com/forums to see if anyone has had the same probs as u...
I must add that my Norton anti virus does not throw up any viral warnings at all.
Thanks for bringng this to my attention...

Hi Mark
It would appear so far that the trojan detection is down to AVG and could be a false positive.
Check out the post over @ wrigleyvideo.com forums.

phew... that's good to hear.

i thought it might have been an update issue since it hadn't shown up before.

AVG obviously doesn't consider it important update because it says it's up to date with the download i did yesterday to 266.5.0. 266.5.1 is the updated version.
