Just checking... a friend is looking at a new system and might go Mac. He does a lot of live events and wants to edit with a multi-cam type package.

FCP5 seems to do more than 4 sources?

"Real-time Multicam Editing
Final Cut Pro 5 introduces real-time multicamera editing tools for DV, SD and HD. This powerful feature lets you simultaneously play back and view shots from multiple sources and cut between them in real time.

Multiclips — a new type of clip that allows you to group together multiple sources as separate angles and cut between them — give you up to 128 angles, of which 16 can be played back at a time. An intuitive synchronization window provides graphical feedback to show where clips overlap so you can accurately create Multiclips. Add, delete or change the order of angles in a Multiclip at any time."

just be aware, AFAIK having used FCP and been unable to do otherwise, the multiclip feature only allows clips to be edited this way, not complete tracks

The point is that sometimes people shoot a master shot, eg 10 mins long, and a whole lot of cutaways (none of which is 5 mins), so you can't multicam edit them

what I wanted was master shot on track A, cutaways on track B, synced, and then to multicam edit. No could do

:(

please correct me if you know otherwise - was a major headache on a recent project, and asked in loads of forums etc.

Hi
I afraid I don't see any correlation with your conclusion ;)

Fuddam - Learn to use Quicktime. It will allow partial clips to be concatenated with infills of black with overall continuous timecode in a Reference Movie which I guess will allow importing into the multiclip sequence.
