Hi Richard.
Please can anyone help.
MSP6 and AV master are still giving problems.
I use a Gigabyte BX2000 main board. PIII 500mhz intel proc. 256meg pc100
ram. G200 8meg GFX card. SB16 pci sound card. AVM ver.0024. Windows 98SE.
Since using a 17" monitor I can run MSP at 1024x768.
The timeline goes black under the dialogue box and stays that way until preview is finished.
Using a high res. screen means the video only is affected.
Sometimes MSP6 fails to play audio of a clip on the timeline on a cut, or
where audio overlaps. Audio is ok if you scrub.
When there are several clips on the timeline, you are unable to grab the edge of a
clip to change it`s length. It will always grab the one you don`t want.
Having spent money upgrading from MSP5.2, I expect the program to work at
least as well or hopefully better.
Apart from these annoying problems, it is faster to work with and I do like
it.

This is normal, MSP avoids spending time re-drawing the timeline while concentrating on playing the preview. It's probably just more noticeable on a higher res. screen - functionality is unaffected.

Don't know about that one. Is MSP6 pre-rendering audio? You could try tweaking the RenderAudio setting in ulead32.ini (value either 0 or 1) to see how it behaves.

You should be able to grab the edge of either clip, it depends whether the mouse cursor is slightly to the left or right of the join. On a higher res. screen it requires a little more careful positioning. It's possible that the size of the zone where you can grab the edges has been changed a bit from 5.2, but I don't know for certain.

John,
In reply can I draw your attention to a posting which I made on this forum 4th January:-
Topic- Media Studio 6.02 & AV Master.
The contents are very much self explanatory. In short I have been completely unable to configure MS. Pro. 6.02 with the AV. Master card to achieve a satisfactory edit end result. Finally, having explored every single option, & I must add, with much valued assistance from Richard, I have reluctantly returned back to MS Pro. 5.2., but not before grabbing a garden spade & wellying MS Pro. 6.02 into the “analogue†rubbish skip!!
To be fair I believe that audio problems experienced are in particular down to AV Master’s ‘Plug In’ build 24, & its apparent incompatibility with MS Pro. 6.02, & are not due to the editing Softwear, which appears to work splendidly with DV. format & other analogue cards.
I have been using MS Pro for about 5 years: beta’d version 6.00 of MS Pro, & experienced audio problems & dropped frames in the early stages of experimenting with the package when set up with AV Master. There was a Fast Build 22, which I originally used with MS.Pro 6.0 [no longer available]: this appeared a deal more compatible, but build 24 & MS Pro 6.02 has been nothing short of a nightmare!
Yesterday I passed my findings on to Paul Dutton at DV. Doctor, simply because Paul is an acknowledged expert on video systems installed in AMD. Machines [mine is an AMD Athlone 600hz]. If he is able to define a technical solution on this problem, then I will get back to you & advise. It is only a personal hunch, but I feel that IRQ. possible conflict with the AV Master board may be the root cause of the audio sync. problem. Fast Tech. Advise that the Board requires its own IRQ, & when installed usually takes IRQ 9. as its option. Trouble is the System also ‘takes’ IRQ 9. for about 4 other of its requirements, including the PCI Steering, & neither can be ‘forced’ into alternative IRQ. positions. Anyhow, I await a response from Paul, but understand that he is a very busy chap.
Sorry if my info. is a little “doomyâ€, but that is the state of play to date.
By the way you may wish to look at another posting from Dave Lodge. Topic: Audio Sync. Dated 28th December. [Similar problems!!]
Look forward to getting back in touch with you in the near future.
Kindest regards.

Thank`s for your reply. It explains some of the problems. The audio tweak did nothing that I could see, the problem is not only when editing, but playing from the timeline. The cursor will not play sound from a certain edit point. The project has to be rendered and played out by Fastcap.

Brian.
Thank`s for your reply. Your troubles are far worse. I too thought about deep holes, spades and wellies but £200 said no.
I take it that the 6.02 patch on Ulead website for DV-audio is the upgrade. Don`t think it makes any difference to AV Master?
I read your posting 4th Jan. I don`t have sound sync problems, but have you looked at Ulead.co.uk the community site web board has some info. on sound sync.
I have no suggestions as to AMD based editing. I have always stuck with BX mother boards and Intel Proc. I can get enough aggro with them.
AV Master does take an IRQ of 9. On my system it is only shared with PCI steering. I expect you have tried other PCI slots as each slot seems to have it`s own pet IRQ.
I have caddies for both internet and edit system drives. I found that certain programs and editing did not go together. This is worth a try.
I managed to get a copy of Fast 2.2. I have also tried Vers. 0019 and 0022. 0024 is better.
Ver.2.2 did not output to an ext. monitor or tape. Thinking about it now, I have Powerplay from my original AVM software from 1998. I will try this.
I have spent the last two weeks trying to get it sorted. Either AVM / MSP6 or my PC is unstable.
Fastcap will rec. but there is a delay of up to 5sec. before it starts. This can be changed in the AVM.ini decode / encode but MSP will not playback. Sometimes the screen goes black and no amount of button pushing except the reset and the resultant re-boot will get it working again. This happens any time between three min. and three hours, and with Fastcap or MSP. I have re-installed win98se many times. The most annoying thing is that it can work beautifully for a period of time, and I think I`ve cured it!
