I currently have a Pentium 75 with 1gig Hard drive. I wish to do some DV non-linear editing on PC. Idea is to upgrade to Celeron 333 with Maxtor 17.2 gig Hard drive with Bravado DV card & Premier.

Does this sound a suitable upgrade option for editing DV footage at home?

I'm sure that the specification that you propose will do the job, but looking at the present pricing from Intel / AMD I'm not sure why you would want to buy anything less than a 400MHz Celeron...?

The 433 has just come out and this has made the 400 great value for money. Even better VFM are the AMD K6's. Although the AMD chips can sometimes be hard to get hold of.

The Maxtor Hard Drive is a good choice, but with the IBM 25Gb drive both faster and bigger and at only £305, check prices before you buy.

You don't mention RAM in your spec. 128Mb if you can. 64Mb at worst. This is well worth investing in, although 95 and 98 do not make use of the extra memory (over 64Mb) as well as NT does...!

I'd definately go for the faster Celeron, the 400Mhz is really good value just now. Ditto for the RAM 128Meg does make a difference over 64

As someone who is just about to start a company who custom build PC's and sell components in my local area, I have all the latest chip prices.

At the moment from places like DABS, Insight etc.. the P2 350 is a bargain, about £135. The P2 400 isn't bad either at just over £210 and with Intel intorducing new P3 chips now these prices will drop even more over the next 2/3 months (It depends how quick you want to upgrade).

The massive 512K on chip cache and the 100Mhz bus speed over the Celerons 128K on chip cache and 66MHz bus speed make a large difference.
