I am using Sony Movie Studio 10 and 12. Putting the in and out points on a clip, marks the region I want to send to the time line is normal.
When I trim the next clip, the cursor starts from the out point of the previously trimmed clip. Not from the start! I have un-checked “always draw marker lines, and enable snapping” as the help file suggests, but the markers are still there in both programs. As usual, the forums are of little help!
Am I missing something? Because this is slowing down an otherwise reasonably fast way to edit.
Hi John
I only do very simple edits in Movie Studio 12 and don't have enough experience to comment properly on your problem, TonyC also uses Sony, maybe he can suggest something?
I just use 'S' to split a clip and 'Trim Event Start or End' to adjust the length of the clip, I hadn't even tried the 'Marker Tool' to select a section before your post and may find it useful
Options>Enable Snapping isn't selected, 'always draw marker lines' is ticked in Options>Preferences>General
This site http://www.storyguide.net/archives/114 looks useful with a Free eBook – Getting Started with Sony Movie Studio, I may even read this myself
Good luck and sorry I can't be of much help
Hi John, I think that Z CHEEMA is the man, perhaps you could pm him because he does'nt visit this site so often now.
I normally but the clip straight onto the TL and trim on there I find that quicker
If you want to use the trimmer then, try right Click on the trimmer and click Show video frames, I find that useful
you can also press the TAB key while in the trimmer window and the and select just video, audio or both to drop to the TL
Highlight the section you want and then drag to the TL, the markers stay where you left them or
you can use the JKL keys or the < & > keys to move the cursor on th TL and then use the I and O keys to set the in out points.
Failing that call / message me if I have miss understood
Thanks for the replies John, Tony and Z Cheema.
The problem has unfortunately worsened. I have several drive images, and restored one with Studio 12 which is fine for the first ten clips, then the problem starts. So I shall take your advice Z Cheema, and do it that way.
I restored an earlier image, installed Movie Studio HD 10. This had to be registered, but throws up an error preventing registration. It also happens with Studio 12, and DVD-A. So not a happy bunny.
Fortunately, I have an image with Studio 12 and DVD Architect both registered, and there are several messages relating to this problem on the web, but Sony doesn’t seem to have the answer. A new install of DVD architect also suffered the same fate. Now win7 informs me that it needs activation but does not recognise the key....... Gremlins!
Give me call, i find that easier

Z Cheema.
Thanks for your reply, but I am afraid that having lost most of my hearing, I cannot use the phone. Unfortunately, most of these problems rely on phone calls. This is why e-mails are much better for me.
As you see. Another problem has raised it`s head, and a new install of Win7 may be a cure for all else. I will keep you posted.
Having re-imaged the drive again, Win7 had to be activated because I had not done it after install. The problem with Sony Movie Studio 10 is too many activations – code 41!
I e-mailed Sony with all information Wednesday, and they have extended the activations. I am wondering that having purchased the software, is it really mine?
However. It is now all working, and I have just discovered that clearing trimmer history has removed the annoying markers. Happy at last...
Thanks again everyone.
That's good news
As for the activation, that's to prevent theft, also you never actually own software or other copyright materials, you just have licence to use them.
If you log into tge Sony site, yiu csn view all your products and licence keys there.
Shout again if you get stuck, we could do a remote desktop, if that helps.
Thanks very much for that information, but I hope all the problems have gone.
