Upgrading AV Master from Win95 to Win98SE

I have an old (by tech standards) AV Master (96-97) that came with MediaStudio Pro 5.0. It has worked very well with Win95, but I am looking to upgrade components a bit. I have used old SCSI drives and would like to take advantage of some larger IDE drives (now cheap and fast enough to support video transfer).

I have upgraded to an Intel board with a 2.4 gig processor and the lowest version of windows that this supports is Windows 98. Because of this, I am looking to change my OS from win95 to win98se.

I have read some of the posts regarding win98, but am a little confused about which drivers to use and the appropriate sequence of installing software/hardware/drivers. I have tried installing MediaStudio Pro 5.0, but the AV Master patch for MSP on my original disk does not seem to work.

I do have MSP 6.0, and can upgrade to this version, but I cannot find the AV Master patch for 6.0. Ulead's website does show a 6.0.0.2 patch, but I don't know if this is the correct one for AV Master. All links to the "patch" that were previously mentioned on this board appear to be dead, so I don't know what is what. Ulead tech support is no help, as they say the patch is on Dazzle's site. I know that Dazzle does have the 2.5 drivers for MSP 6.0, but the help file for these drivers also refers to a Ulead patch (and, of course, all links are dead).

Can anybody out there help me make sense of this? I currently have AV Master 2.1 drivers (original disks) and have downloaded 2.2, 2.2 patch and 2.5 drivers. All documentation seems to indicate that the 2.5 is for MSP 6.0 only, and the other docs seem to indicate that 2.2 is for win95 only.

Any info that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi
I`m currently using AVM 2.5 with MSP 5.2 under wind 98SE.
It is confusing as to which vers. of AVM to use.I had to do a complete reinstal of wind 98SE & I had forgotton which vers. of AVM I was using. So I installed 2.5 despite what the readme file stated.
I managed to find the original downloads & that made no mentioned of 2.5 being only for MSP 6.0.
Re installation of AVM & MSP under win 98SE
first install & get AVM running.
You could well encounter problems with memory conflict. Although it might not show up in system properties there can be problems with AVM & your graphics card sharing the same memory.
Still see how it goes but get AVM up & running first.
Try vers 2.5 but you need to unistall any previous vers of AVM & remove entries in the registry otherwise AVM will noy install vers 2.5.
Ensuring everthing is ok following a reboot.
Then install MSP 5.0 check to ensure prog. is running ok with AVM.
The power play module should load during the loading of MSP.(note power play is part of 2.5)
If everything appears to work ok. Reboot & install the update to MSP 5.2.
See how that goes I have done this & yes I had problems with MSP 5.2 running correctly. I have managed to sort my problem out & it would appear it was done to having installed a later version of windows media player.
My advice is to leave the version that is installed by win 98SE & not upgrade.
Get the system up & running under 98SE before upgrading any of the media type players. Then try & see how it affects you syatem.
Hope this help or have you already taken the plunge.

Hi again
I have only ever used IDE drives & my original setup was under win 95.
Never had a problem with the drives being fast enough.
With your new motherboard which should support the faster ATA specs you will notice the difference.
Render via MSP will also be faster try disabling the hardware support via MSP for the FAST AVMASTER Codec to check the difference.

Thank you both for your suggestions. Right now I am trying to get the blasted thing onto its own IRQ and this is proving troublesome. Even with new Intel board where you can theoretically map the IRQs to the PCI slots, win98se is not cooperating.

I have read just about all I can get my hands on to do this and am performing that great new dance step, "The PCI Shuffle"! When I get this move down, we may actually get to the software!

Thanks again. I'll let you know how it goes.

I know what you mean.
In the end I had to allocate myself.
I did this by using the same IQ number as windows allocated but changed the memory area. This is a bit of trial & error. The main problem area is to do with the memory allocate to the graphics card. Try to steer well clear of this.
If you don`t know where to find this info.In wind 98SE go to Start/priograms/system tools/system information then Hardware Resources/memory which will show you all the areas allocated.
Also I only installed the AVM card + graphics card to start of with.
Leaving any other PCI card out until I got the AVM running.
