I have been using EDIUS for years now on Win XP 32bit for all my edit needs....However I have been forced to upgrade to a new PC and I now have EDIUS 5.51 on a Win 7 64bit pc - works very well too!
I have been using a couple of software packages for years...DVD WORKSHOP for fast SD DVD in 4:3 so if I get some VHS to dvd and they are in 4:3 I use that, works a treat and has never produced a duff disc.
For BD-R creation I have had a lot of success with DVDitPROHD and encoded MPEG 2 files from EDIUS and again not had any duff discs, after a lot of testing on many BD players I never had a rejection of a disc either.
Although I was asked to leave a Currys once after trying 10 different players - I did not realise my disc was being shown on 60 odd tv's across the store - LOL
To my question
On a Win 7 64 PC what is currently being used as a general software application for BD-R creation?
I see EDIUS 5.51 has some disc creation built in BUT I have not explored this yet - I like a stand alone to be honest - like DVD-IT or similar
Any ideas
What are you guys and gals using yourselves
Thanks in advance
Cath

Using Adobe Encore. It's not without its flaws, but for my needs - authoring simple menus and timelines - it works very well.
I like the fact that you can author once and output thrice: for Blu-ray, DVD, and Flash.
I think you can't get Encore without Premiere. But Premiere's so superior to Edius in so many ways you might consider changing your NLE too! Can you see me ducking?

Hi Cath - you talk about using Ulead DVD Workshop2 for 4:3 DVDs but of course you know it can be used to make perfectly good 16:9 DVDs, complete with 16:9 moving images in the menus as well? I've been using it for very many years and like it a lot as it's hugely configurable. It can't do Blu-ray discs of course, but it's a lot nicer than the DVDit!SE that I had before it.
I find Edius' 'Print to disc' pretty good as well. It's not as comprehensive a program as WS2, but it still allows you multiple menu pages with moving image chapter points set on a moving image background all set to music, so there's little else needed unless you're showing off. The latest MPEG2 encoder built into Edius 6 is really good - DVDs are bitingly sharp and compression artifact free.

Re: What software do you use for Blu-ray production?
Interesting! I`ve used Liquid for many years & now also have Edius 6.05. A pal of mine who has used Premier since it`s birth has recently changed to Edius after having seen what I (a novice Edius user) was doing. Make no mistake, my pal runs his own video production house & has been shooting and editing for around 25 years. The system he had was built by a VERY well known & respected company & they couldn`t sort it out, hence the change of platorm.

Re: What software do you use for Blu-ray production?
I use DVDA 5.2 and TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4. DVDA has good integration with my NLE, but can't do pop-up menus. (Which the cheapo TAW4 can) With most of my BD jobs though, I have to produce a matching DVD. This is dead simple in DVDA, but a PITA with TAW4. If it wasn't, I'd probably use TAW4 more.
Quite a steep learning curve for DVDA, quite a shallow learning curve with TAW4.

Thanks for the replies everyone
Tom yes! sorry - I have DVDWS2 and use that for 16:9 stuff too in SD again works a treat
I have reinstalled DVDitPROHD on the new machine and it works very well, wasn't convinced it would!
I have downloaded a trial of DVD A Pro and have been playing about with it....Anyone use the DVD A Studio edition?
Arthur - Thats a good shout with DVDA on the SD HD offerings
Not had a look at the TAWA 4 - looks interesting Thanks for the heads up on that one - downloaded the trial will give it a try too!
I like to encode to mpeg2hd elementary streams from EDIUS then import to the chosen DVD authoring package - What files to you bring into your authoring application HD AVI's? and let the authoring package do the encoding?
Interested to know others work flow on this front.....
Thanks
Cath

No, I never let the authoring programme do the encoding. You have far more control over that with your NLE.
