Wind noise from NTG-1

Hi Guys.

Just recently bought a Rode NTG1 mic. Good for indoors, but outside, with the rode furry on, I'm still getting wind noise.

I noticed that if I blow at the xlr connection to the rear of the mic, there is a lot of wind noise being picked up. Surely shouldn't happen with a mic that price.

Is there any way to stop this, perhaps some sort of rubber seal missing?

Thanks.

Re: Wind Noise from Mic

Hi Mike, I do a lot of outdoor shooting and what solved this for me was to tightly wind black PVC tape continuously over the barrel of the mic starting as far back as possible, over the socket/xlr connector and importantly the first two inches of the mic cable.

What type of Rode furry are using? I found the Rode WS6 much more effective than the simple Rode hairy cover.

Thanks Claire.  I have been informed that there should be a rubber o-ring between the XLR and the mic.  Will try and source one.  Any suggestions where anyone? Thanks

Most good xlr line sockets have O rings i.e. Neutrix etc.

Canford sell replacement Neutrix O rings, part number 40-921, although the Neutrix ones fit into a groove on the xlr and may not fit an xlr without the groove, properly.
The diameter of the part that fits into the microphone is 15.8mm therefore you would need an o ring with an internal diameter of about 15mm.

Tons on fleabay.
