I installed windows 10 some while ago and I can't make up my mind if I prefer it to windows 7.
I would like to hear users' views about it, and I wonder if anyone upgraded and then reverted to windows 7/8.
Dislike it! I only have it on my laptop that I use when we`re away & have installed "Classic Shell" on it which brings back some of the WIN7 way of working!
Thanks Barry, which windows versions do you use on your other systems?
I have to disagree with Barry here. I have it on four of our systems now, and would not dream of going back to Windows 7.
It pays to have the Pro version - the lack of group policy editor in Home prevents you turning off a lot of microsoft's data mining. Spybot do an excellent free program to combat microsoft spyware - called Beacon.
Despite the propaganda put about by Adobe, and the shills on their forums, Premiere, Encore, Auditon, After Effects, and Photoshop, all run better on W10 than they did on older versions.
Thanks Alan, I'll try anti-beacon.
Still got an edit system, Avid Liquid used only for grandchildren tapes which is on XP all the rest are on WIN 7 including the one which Edius 6.08 runs on!
For professional reasons (remember, I do IT support for a living), I've had a huge amount of experience with Win 10.
Of my own desktop PCs and laptops (and desktops that I use as media servers), one runs Win10 (Pro) and all the rest (eight in total) run either Win7 Pro or Win7 Ultimate.
Oh, and I've got a further four PCs that are sitting waiting as spares, all running Win7, while my two sons' computers (a laptop and a desktop apiece) also run Win7.
So Barry has nailed it for me.
The one machine that runs Win10 Pro is a very lovely Asus (i5 CPU; 6GB RAM; 256GB SSD) and works very well thanks to my installing Classic Shell (a freebie) to make it fit for human consumption.
I must have installed Classic Shell on over 50 clients' computers. Previous to that I'd used the paid for (but very inexpensive) StartIsBack but Classic Shell is hugely better, not least because it offers to upgrade itself to a new version if it's broken (deliberately, me thinks) by a Windows 10 update, which happens over and over and over.
Worth mentioning, too, all but one of them of them has a solid state boot drive (SSD) and you'd have to hold a gun to my head and convince me you were going to use it before I'd go back to mechanical drives as boot devices.
The only machine without an SSD is my younger son's gaming desktop PC and that has a hybrid (HDD/SSD combi) as its boot device.

Thanks for your input Bob. There's no need to read between the lines is there as far as Windows 10 is concerned.
Windows 10 on all my computers , and it has been like that since Windows 10 was in closed Beta.
It is running on machines from a Windows Phone , thru Atom based tablet , to Xeon Server.
I need to put some old hardware into the server and see if i can get the drivers working , but the server runs Edius 8 happily from SSD , although it too may get memory added , as 8 GB is enough , but 16GB is always better on a server / edit pc.
Nice to see a weel ken't face back on the forum. Missed your expertise and tips, Gary. Hope you don't get snowed in up there.
