I am considering changing up from Windows XP to Windows 7. Somebody mentioned that they couldn't find Windows explorer in Windows 7. If that is the case how do you move files around from one internal harddrive to another? With XP it is simple.

It's there, I use it all the time. It might not be called "Windows Explorer" any more, I can't remember but the [Windows] + [E] keys access it.

It's still called Windows Explorer, not sure about the "Window + E" keys, for me that shortcut opens "My computer"

I drink to steady my nerves. Last night I got so steady I couldn't move. Wedding video essex

you open my computer ( windows + e )
open first drive
open my computer ( windows + e )
open second drive
right click on toolbar bottom of screen
select ''show windows side by side''
now drag and drop files between derives.

Thanks Gary for info. Am I right in assuming that the method you describe does not use Windows explorer?

Roy,

The 'Computer' application is the name presented to the the user. In reality, it is explorer.exe that is being opened whether you use the folder icon on the taskbar or select windows key + E. You can open as many as you want, on my 64 bit machine, each instance takes about another 2MB of RAM.
If you close all instances of explorer.exe (via task manager) you will force a partial reboot of windows.

Or simply find Windows Explorer in 'All Programs' (Start button) then 'Accessories' folder. Right click on it and pin to task bar or 'send to' then desktop as a shortcut.

Simples!

I guess this confusion has come from the fact that Windows Explorer (on Vista and W7) no longer has any title showing in the extreme top left of the window - unlike Windows XP, which did.
